Silver Tea benefits seniors at Ingleside at Rock Creek

blog-tea-irc.jpgTradition combined with beautiful food and caring hearts on Sunday, May 3, when Ingleside at Rock Creek hosted the Gala Luncheon and 109th Annual Silver Tea

The tea and luncheon benefit the Ingleside at Rock Creek Resident Supporting Fund, which helps to ensure that no Ingleside resident is forced to leave the retirement community for financial reasons.

Ingleside at Rock Creek originated in 1906 as the Presbyterian Home of the District of Columbia. The Presbyterian Women’s Board sponsored a tea that same year to finance a new heating system in the residence. Attendees came bearing silver offerings for the benefit of the residence. The tea was greatly successful and evolved over the years into garden parties and open houses each spring. By 1972 the custom of offering silver had faded out; at that year’s event, the Women’s Board put out two silver bowls for contributions, and the name Silver Tea was born.

The Ingleside Presbyterian Women’s Board and the Ingleside Development Committee started a new tradition in 2013—the First Annual Silver Tea Gala and Luncheon.

Women’s Board members, residents, staff and board members helped to produce this year’s event, which included a full buffet, tea and wine, an entertainment.

Besides raising funds for the Ingleside at Rock Creek Resident Supporting Fund, the tea and luncheon was an opportunity for residents, families and friends to socialize with staff and board members.

The event is another example of the loving and compassionate approach the Ingleside family of communities takes to providing excellent housing, wellness, rehabilitation services and lifelong learning opportunities for seniors. Ingleside at Rock Creek, a continuing care retirement community, creates an environment that allows residents to live active, engaged lives through support of local arts initiatives, resident life enrichment programs, maintenance-free apartments, housekeeping, dining, transportation, onsite amenities and the assurance that health needs will be taken care of throughout their lives.
