Art Therapy

Art can be a powerful vehicle for expressing feelings. Art helps simulate thought and emotions not only in the artist but also in the viewer. It can enhance health and well-being. Art helps restore self-esteem and diminishes some frustration, it gets the artist and viewer excited and engaged.

Drawing, painting, sketching, sculpture, and any other art expression is a useful tool in maintaining overall good health. Seniors that get involved in doing art may learn a new skill or brush up on an old technique; it keeps them active socially and helps them maintain mobility.

Art classes held at Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) are a popular activity. Many CCRCs have built art studios for their residents. Not only are studio classes offered but art appreciation is offered. Some retirement communities will bring in Art therapists or art education programs.
