Older Americans Month celebrates living out loud
Happy Older Americans Month! We celebrate our older citizens every May, and there’s a lot to celebrate this year.
For many older Americans, getting older means getting a new or second start on interests, goals and dreams. This year’s Older Americans Theme, “Age Out Loud”, speaks to the way older adults are living their lives with boldness, confidence and passion, while redefining perceptions about aging and serving as inspiration to people of all ages. Art exhibit showcases works from Ingleside family of retirement communities
Art benefits both the artist and the viewer. Recent research has shown that making art has both physical and psychological benefits. A groundbreaking study of art’s positive effects on health as we age found that, for both artists and art appreciators, art aids relaxation, reduces depression and anxiety, encourages playfulness, improves cognitive functions, increases self-esteem, nurtures spirituality, provides social opportunities and improves communication with others.
