Ingleside at Rock Creek Employee Receives National Recognition
Denton, Texas – The Coalition for Leadership in Aging Service (CLAS) honors Kristin Shanks, Sales Director of Ingleside at Rock Creek as a member of the 2013 Certified Aging Services Professional (CASP) graduation class.
After successfully completing the required professional training and three comprehensive examinations, Kristin has been awarded the CASP designation and was acknowledged at the CASP Graduation Ceremony during the LeadingAge (formerly AAHSA) Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, October 27, 2013.

South African Grannies ‘Never Give Up’
Members of the South African activist group, Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS (GAPA), visited Ingleside at Rock Creek on Sept. 24 to share their remarkable stories of overcoming adversity.
The Grandmothers have all lost children to AIDS and some care for their orphaned grandchildren or nurse sick children who had AIDS. They teach monthly workshops for new grandmothers on topics like nursing and parenting skills. They also provide afterschool care such as meals, homework support and recreational activities for hundreds of local children.

Art Therapy
Art can be a powerful vehicle for expressing feelings. Art helps simulate thought and emotions not only in the artist but also in the viewer. It can enhance health and well-being. Art helps restore self-esteem and diminishes some frustration, it gets the artist and viewer excited and engaged.

Pet Projects
At many Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) you will find some very special residents, some of whom boast an inordinate amount of fur and with noses that are somewhat colder than normal. These cherished residents are greeted fondly wherever they go on campus. The joys of having a pet are well known from childhood and certainly do not diminish as we grow older.
